INTRODUCTION

Uttarakhand was formed on 9th November 2000 as the 27th State of India, when it was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh. Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, it is essentially a hilly State, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. On its northwest lies Himachal Pradesh, while on the south is Uttar Pradesh. It is rich in natural resources especially water and forests with many glaciers, rivers, dense forests, and snow-clad mountain peaks. Char-dhams, the four most sacred and revered Hindu temples of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri are nestled in the mighty mountains. It is one of the most beautiful resorts in the sub-mountain tracts of India, known for its scenic surroundings. The town lies in the Dun Valley, on the Ganga and Yamuna rivers watershed.
It is blessed with a rare bio-diversity, inter-alia, and 175 rare aromatic & medicinal plant species found in the State. It has almost all major climatic zones, making it amenable to various commercial opportunities in horticulture, floriculture, and agriculture. It has vast tourism potential in adventure, leisure, and eco-tourism. The State is rich in mineral deposits like limestone, marble, rock phosphate, dolomite, magnesite, copper, gypsum, etc. It is also known as Uttar- Khand because of its location in the north direction, or as Devbhumi {Land Of Gods} due to the abundance of spiritual temples like Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, Yamunotri, Hemkund Sahib, etc.

There are three World Heritage Sites in Uttarakhand i.e. Valley Of Flowers National Park, Nanda Devi, and Nanda Devi National Park. Uttarakhand is divided into 13 districts, 78 Tehsils, and 95 community development blocks. The two regions are namely  Garhwal Region and Kumaon Region. Further, these two regions are divided into 13 districts for better government supervision. Those 13 districts are Dehradun, Haridwar, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, and Uttarkashi in the Garhwal region and Almora, Pithoragarh, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, and Champawat in the Kumaon district. Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand.
